  General Test Information

  This test measures your ability to use English in an academic context. There are 4 sections.

  In the Reading section, you will read several passages and answer questions about them.

  In the Listening section, you will hear several conversations and lectures and answer questions about them.

  In the Speaking section, you will answer 6 questions. Some of the questions ask you to speak about your own experience. Other questions ask you to speak about lectures and reading passages.

  In the Writing section you will answer 2 questions. The first question ask you to write about the relationship between a lecture you will hear and a passage you will read. The second question asks you to write an essay about a topic of general interest based on your experience.

  During this practice test, you may click the Pause icon at any time. This will stop the test until you decide to continue. You may continue the test in a few minutes, or at any time during the period that your practice is activated.

  There will be directions for each section which explain how to answer the questions in that section.

  You should work quickly and carefully on the Reading and Listening questions. Some questions are more difficult than others, but try to answer everyone to the best of your ability. If you are not sure to the answer to a question, make the best guess that you can. The questions that you answer by speaking and by writing are each separately timed. Try to answer every one of these questions as completely as possible in the time allowed.

  Question:Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific theories presented in the reading passage.

  The reading material thinks that the silver coin was not taken by Norse, the European explorer, it is just a historical fake, and then give three different opinion. First of all, the passage said that the distance between the Maine site and the Norse settlements in Canada is more than a thousand kilometers, so it is impossible for Norse to have a real connection with the American settlements. However, the lecturer hold an opposite agreement which is about American prefer to travel a long trip to obtain the subject which they want, therefore, it is also convenience that the coin would be acquired by their long traveling. Secondly, the author asserts that they are no more available coins have been found at the Canadian sites in which Norse live, thus it means that Norse have never bring silver coins for American settlements. On the contrary, the professor refutes the opinion that just proposed in passage. He asserts that it could be possible when Norse wanted to back to Europe and he packed up all coin return to Europe. So, in that case, there could have no more coin in America. Lastly, the reading material considers that the silver coins cannot influent in America, so Norse recognized that native Americans did not know silver coins as money. In contrast, Although the silver coin cannot as the money for native Americans, it could for them to adorn themselves as well. Therefore, the Americans would seem silver coins as the jewelry or other decoration things.
