Casablanca as a film
Casablanca is a 1942 American romantic drama film. Set during World War II, it focuses on an American expatriate who must choose between his love for a woman and helping her Czech Resistance leader husband escape the Vichy-controlled city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Nazis.
Casablanca was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and won three. In 2005, it was named one of the 100 greatest films of the last 80 years by Time magazine. In 2006, the Writers Guild of America, West agreed, voting it the best ever in its list of the 101 greatest screenplays.
Although highly reputed, the film has several logical flaws. Firstly, there was no uniformed German troops were stationed in Casablanca during World War II. Also, the usual route out of Germany at that time was via Vienna, Prague, Paris, and London. Others tried to go from Paris through the Pyrenees to Spain, not Casablanca, as portrayed in the film.
