1. In China, have television programs changed much in recent years?
Yes. There are more television programs now and they are becoming more diversified. For example, more reality shows have been produced.
2. How do you think TV programs in China could be improved?
Of course they could be improved. I think nowadays more people have devoted themselves to the development of TV programs. Many new and excellent programs have appeared.
3. Do you play video games?
I only play video games when I’m bored, for example, when I’m waiting for the bus and I have nothing better to do.
4. What kinds of video games do you like to play?
I like to play Kinect games. Especially when my friends come to my house, I would invite them to play with me. It is full of fun.
5. Is it good for young people to play video games?
I think young people sometimes are under great pressure from work or study, so it will do them good if they play video games occasionally. Just don’t get addicted to the games.
Describe an experience that you waited for something. You should say:
What you waited for
How long you waited
Why you waited for it
and explain how you felt about it
I couldn’t have a better understanding of what wait means if I didn’t experience waiting for the result for my first job interview. At that time, I just graduated from university and got an interview opportunity from a big famous company. I was overjoyed when hearing this. I remembered that there was only one week left for my job interview. I searched for floods of information about the history and major market of the company to fully prepare the interview. On the interview day, I began to know that there are four rounds of interviews before the final result came. First of all, I had to complete the written test. After that, I had to meet a department leader for face-to-face interview. In the third round, I had to complete a group task with other competitors. Finally, I had the opportunity to confront one of the chief executive with a final brainstorm activity. Fortunately, I won the opportunity for the fourth round. However, they told me to wait for the result in the end. I waited for the offer for two weeks. Yes, I was very confident that there could be an offer waiting for me. Nevertheless, they didn’t call me back. I can’t tolerate the fact that they didn’t give me a feedback, so I called them. They said sorry about the delaying offer but without any explanation. Coincidentally, I had to move to another city for some personal reasons. So I gave up that offer.
I felt unsatisfied without any reasonable explanation for the delaying notification of the offer. I spent so much time preparing and experiencing the interviews so I tolerated with the wait. However, I can’t feel any equal respect from them. Even if I didn’t move to the city I live now, I could still linger on accepting the offer. I suffered a lot from the more than two-week wait.
①Do you think patience is important?
I do think that patience is important. It is required in all realms and it is a virtue that everyone should possess. For students, being patient could help them to shape their talents and abilities into real achievements. In other words, students have to really focus on their learning and make dedicate efforts for a long time. They have to be patient because the accumulation of knowledge requires a long time. For scientists, they also need to be patient. Nowadays many diseases that were deemed incurable have been conquered. These achievements have been made possible through repeated experiments and they require great patience.
②Why is it difficult for children to be patient?
Well I think the reasons may vary. Sometimes children seem impatient because their capabilities are limited. They may want to tell their parents something but they could not organize their language well. They may want to pick up a toy but instead they get tripped. These things happen a lot, so it is natural that they sometimes get upset and look impatient. And to children who grow older and can totally control their body, they sometimes get impatient because they care more about results than process and they are too eager to complete something. So parents should help to guide their children.
③What would you do if you wait for someone for a long time?
Well it depends on whom I’m waiting for. If the person I’m waiting for is one of my customers, I guess I would first call him or her to make sure the customer has not forgotten our appointment. If nothing keeps the customer from coming, I would keep waiting. After all, it is my job and I have to do my duty. While I am waiting, I could use my e-reader to read books or play games on my cellphone. I would do anything that helps to kill time. If I am waiting for a friend, maybe I won’t be so patient. I would call and urge my friend to come quickly.
④Would you easily feel angry when you wait for a long time?
Well it depends. If the person I’m going to see keeps me waiting for a long time with no excusable reasons, I think I may get angry. Each time I make an appointment with my friend, I would mark the date on my calendar so that I won’t forget it. I think it is a sign of respect to be there on time. I wish my friends could do the same. But if they are late because of justified reasons, I guess it is understandable. There was a time that I waited for a friend for nearly two hours. I called her for dozens of times but nobody answered. Later I got to know that her cellphone was stolen and she had to report to the police.
⑤Have you ever been late for meeting someone?
Well I seldom arrive late when I’m meeting someone. I think it is a sign of respect to arrive on time, but there was this one time that I did get late in an appointment with my friend Jim. We planned to watch a movie together at 4:00 pm. When I was about to go, I got a call from my supervisor. She asked me to go to her office to talk about my paper. I thought it would be a short talk so I just texted my friend that I might be late for a few minutes. But it turned out that we had discussed the paper for nearly an hour. So I was late for the movie. I felt very bad about myself.
Describe an experience of good service in a shop or restaurant. You should say:
When it happened
Where it happened
How you felt about it
and explain why you think it was good service
I enjoyed an amazing service when I went to a hot-pot restaurant. It belongs to a famous chain of restaurants. I remembered that it happened on one day two years ago. At that time, I suffered a failure in a relationship. I was very sad but I didn’t want to say anything to anybody or cry for anything. I messed around for two whole days. In the evening on that day, I walked around in a nearby shopping plaza. Suddenly, a sense of hunger came. I had no appetite for any so called normal dishes and I walked into the hot-pot restaurant. The waitress welcomed me warmly and didn’t show any surprise for a single one who would like to have a hot-pot feast. I think she may see through that something bad happened on me from my look. She suggested a wonderful set meal for me and offered some fresh fruits for me. I felt a little bit flattered and began to say a lot of “thank you” back. When I was having the meal, she put a big doll to the opposite of my seat and said: “Enjoying your meal. She is your company. ” I couldn’t help bursting out laughter. When I checked out, she even gave me a discount and said slowly: “Be happy. Nothing is a big deal but you are. ”
I have to admit that I wanted to cry out for a moment. I felt that I was highly respected, cared and loved by a stranger. She didn’t ask anything but she knew much more than I thought. Yes, nothing is a big deal but you are. Actually, this was the best service I experienced. After leaving the restaurant, I recognized that I was back to the track of normal state suddenly. I will appreciate the experience forever.
①What jobs require staff to get in touch with many people?
Well, there are a lot of jobs that require the staff to meet many people every day. To start with, salesmen and saleswomen have to get in touch with strangers everyday. They have to introduce their products and talk the customers into buying the products. Most importantly, they have to bond with strangers and gain their trust. Apart from salespersons, waiters and waitresses also have to meet a lot of strangers everyday. They offer their service to customers and they have to be very good at observation. They need to notice every gesture from the customers and respond quickly. The job requires a high level of patience and proficiency.
②What qualities do the staff need? Why?
Well, I think those staff who deal with many people everyday should be patient, observant and trustable. Take the salespersons as an example. Everyday they have to meet a lot of people and many of them strangers. They may know little about the product and raise many questions. To the salespersons, each day they have to repeat the same information for many times. Thus they need to be really patient. Besides, they have to be observant. From the expressions of customers, they need to tell whether the customer is interested or not. They also need to own the trust of customers in a short time.
③What’s the different between services in big shops and small shops?
Well I would like to talk about the differences by making a comparison between Ikea and a small furniture shop in Macalline. Last year I moved into my new house and I need to buy some furniture. Thus I visited many furniture shops. I first went to Ikea. There were more options there. Furniture of different styles and delicate designs is exhibited there. If customers like the furniture, they can write down the number and fetch the product in the warehouse and take it home instantly. In the small furniture shop, however, if customers wanted to buy the product, they need to book ahead of time and wait for a few months till they are ready. The choices are also fewer.
④How should people do when they get bad service?
Well, I am a person who cares about service very much, so normally I can’t stand bad service. I think people should step forward and point out the problem immediately. Otherwise, people who provide bad service can hardly make any improvement. Sometimes misunderstandings may exist and if we don’t point it out, we would never know their difficulties. I once went to a small restaurant and I waited nearly half an hour for my meal. I got very angry and I complained about it. The owner apologized and she told me that her assistant had been ill, so she had to take control of everything. I think sometimes there are exceptional cases so they can be forgiven.
⑤Why do some people not know what service is good?
I think some people had no idea what service is good because different people hold different understandings of good service. To some people, if they haven’t got their meals in 10 minutes, then they will consider the service bad. But to other people, if they haven’t got their meals in 5 minutes, then they will complain about the service. To some customers, they don’t even care about how long they will wait as long as the taste is good. So different people have different perceptions toward service. Another reason I can think of is that people don’t know what service is good because they haven’t experienced any good service.
Describe a well-paid job you would like to do in the future. You should say:
what job it is;
what qualities are required for this job;
what you would need to learn to get this job;
And explain why you would like to do this job.
My dream well-paid job in the future is to be a career adviser. From my perspective, a career adviser is a person who gives detailed suggestions and recommendations to a job hunter, which are based on his or her scientific analyses to those job hunters. Thus, all job hunters don’t need to send their resumes to those companies who will never give them an opportunity for an interview. None of their application is wasted. None of their time is wasted. All job hunters could have an objective overview of their SWOTs. There are no professional career advisers now, but I think the career of career advisers will welcome its prime time in the future. The job needs me to learn much on psychology, sociology and philosophy, involving related analytic methodologies. Besides that I was required to have the ability to read people and be patient, caring and versatile to take the job.
I’d like to do this job on the account of the fact that the employment market is pretty unstable due to the dynamic economic situations these years. The competition in job market is getting stronger. Almost all of us have the experience that we are in the struggle of looking for an ideal job now and then. A career adviser could be a cleverest person who knows both the secrets of the job market and assessments of personal values. Their existence means less unemployment.
①Is it hard to find a good job in China?
Well, it depends. To some people, it is hard while to others it is quite easy. When we graduated from university, many students got several offers while many others complained that it was too hard to find a good job. It was so strange since they went to the same university and received similar education. So how could it be? I believe the reasons lie in their different experiences. I have classmates who took part-time jobs and made all kinds of preparation for their future career. I also have classmates who spent most of their time on video games and cared little about internships or their lessons. So their gaps were actually expanding and finally influenced their job hunting.
②What kinds of preparation should people do for a job interview?
Well I think there is a lot of preparation work that people should do before they take a job interview. First they need to prepare a resume. Now many companies will first screen resumes before they actually ask people to attend a job interview. So people should highlight their advantages and experiences in the resume. Before they take the interview, they also need to search information about the company and the position. Thus when they were asked about their knowledge about the company, they would gain themselves a better impression. Lastly I think people should also take care of their looks before they attend the interview. Generally people wear suits in the formal occasion like an interview.
③Why do some people keep changing their jobs?
Well people change their jobs for various reasons. Many people are not satisfied with their salaries and they wish to get a higher salary by changing to another company. Many people may feel that their promotion opportunities are limited so they tend to find a bigger platform to display their ability. I knew a person who changed his jobs because he wanted to experience different jobs and then picked one that he liked most. No matter what reasons people may have for changing their jobs, I think there is one thing in common. They are not satisfied with the job they have so they wish to find a better one.
④What should a good employer do?
Well I think good employers should first know the advantages and disadvantages of the employees to guarantee that the job they do really suit them. There are people who are outgoing and they may better suit the job as salespersons while many other people are more introverted and they won’t be qualified for a job of this kind. So the employers have to know their employees well to attribute different jobs to them. Besides, they should provide the employees with proper salaries, a room for promotion and ability development. These are what people care about. Generally speaking, people all work for a better life and they wish to be appreciated.
⑤Would you like to work on weekends?
Well it depends. Generally speaking, I don’t like to work extra hours or work at weekends. I think after five days of hard work, I need to have a rest to build up energy. But sometimes if I am very busy and I have a very tight time schedule, I don’t mind working at weekends occasionally. I guess I have to say I’m willing to work weekends only when it is necessary. I know some companies are now forcing their employees to work extra hours at weekends. I don’t think this move will improve the efficiency of workers. On the contrary, it will greatly hamper workers’ working enthusiasm.
⑥How would you define “a good job”?
Well in my opinion, a good job is a job that I like. I once worked in an IT company. I had to work late everyday though the pay was good. But I felt unhappy. I often complained about it. I got distressed every morning I walked in my office. Later I quitted and I joined another company. I get quite well with my new coworkers and each day when I am working, I feel fulfilled. Though the pay is not as good as that of my previous job, I am happier. I don’t have to work extra hours anymore and I can take the time to do anything I want.
