Describe someone who speaks a foreign language well.
You should say:
Who this person is
What kind of foreign language he/she speaks
Why he/she learns this foreign language
And explain why you think he/she speaks this language well
The occasion you first met this person
I still remembered the first time I met her, she was doing…
1. Be interested in English: music, TV series, literature…
2. Go broad(just like you): further education
1. 敢说：courage – timid: be mocked by others
2. 会说：skill: complex grammatical items (tense); superior vocabulary; hesitation; intonation
A person I’d like to talk about today is my one of my college classmates who I have known for nearly 10 years.
I still remembered the first time I saw her in lecture hall on campus while she was giving an English speech, confidently and fluently. Since we were assigned to the same group to do some presentations later, we’ve become good friends.
There are two reasons she has to learn English. First, she is quite obsessed with western culture, from English literature like Mrs. Dalloway from Virginia Woolf to some TV series like Friends or Game of Thrones. Besides, just like me, she also wants to further her study abroad, which requires her to get at least 6 in IELTS.
As for why I think she speaks English quite well. On the one hand, she insists on speaking all in English and she’s got the courage to talk to our foreign teachers. On the contrary, I’m always afraid of making mistakes or being mocked by others. On the other hand, it seems like she is capable of using a series of complex grammatical items like inversion or present perfect continuous as well as collocations and advanced vocabulary without difficulty. In most cases, I’m struggling on those details like which word I should use or which tense is more appropriate. Sometimes, I find myself losing confidence in English speaking. Luckily, she’s helped me a lot with my broken English. Every day after class, she’d drag me to an English corner to share my experiences to others.
Thanks to her, my oral English has been improved a lot. I really wish I could speak English as fluent as she does.
