Describe a skill that took you a long time to learn
You should say:
What it is
When you learned it
Why it took you a long time to learn
And explain how you felt after you learned it
A skill that took me a long time to learn was public speaking, also known as (也被称为) oratory or oration. Public speaking is commonly understood as the process or act of performing a speech to a live audience. It can serve the purpose (满足…的需要) of transmitting information, telling a story, motivating people to act or a combination of these. Several years ago, when I saw Barack Obama delivering his campaign speeches on TV, I was deeply fascinated by (被…迷住) the quality of leadership that he displayed. In the hope of being a man aseloquent (能言善辩的) as Obama, I took a course in public speaking at university. The professor told us that there are many times when we need to express ourselves or persuade others, and people good at public speaking tend to have others’ recognition. The reason why it took so long to acquire is that the ability is hard for both body and soul. First of all, we should accumulate a certain amount of knowledge through extensive reading to ensure that we always have something to say. Secondly, we must keep regular practice by expressing our opinion on certain hot topics in society. Thirdly, when we are prepared, we should try to speak in front of the public, which is the process where we truly gain experience. After I learned how to speak in public, I felt that it was quite a useful skill as I am more comfortable and pleased with personal communication.
